Here is an example prompt: “A central way that we have approached ancient cities is to understand the relationships between social structures, organizations, religious institutions, and social memory within the context of a built environment. Choose a category of building (palace, tomb, sanctuary, etc.) or space (funerary, public, administrative, etc.) and trace its development through time. For example, how did Early Iron Age elite houses become Archaic/Classical temples? How did communal commercial spaces (markets, ports, etc.) become vehicles for centralized State authority and control (this is perhaps more relevant to the Roman portion of the class)? How did changes in political authority/social organization necessitate changes in architecture (types of burials/monuments, types and locations of political buildings, types/forms of buildings that served as a symbol of group identity/memory, etc.)?”
This paper needs to go over the history of ancient greek burials and cults of the dead specifically talking about famous oracles as well. It needs to have a clear thesis.
