accounts reportout on the news according to their individual station’s“subjective, or factual” partisan views, or support of a certain candidates or

parties over the other one (for example: the station mayadvocate more for the Democratic, OR Republican presidency, or policies, etc.) This

assignment will help you to learn to observe andlisten to how the news is being reported out today.

INSTRUCTIONS:This is a required “TakeHome”Exam assignment for students enrolled inDr. Drew’s Political Science 180classes.

This is applied research project will require you to evaluate and exercise both your “analytical” and “political/critical thinking skillsto

watch, listen, review,and evaluate a variety of Television (TV) news casts, Radio, Newspapers, Internet broadcasts,Pod Casts,and other

news media sources you select. You are toobserve, evaluate and analyze each news outlet for anyof the following issues:

  1. Partisan, or “political/partisanbiases” that favor a certain party over the other one in the way the news in reported.
  2. Any “fake” news that is being reported.
  3. Any other “partisan, social, racial, or sexist biases (if any) reporting standards in the way the various stations report-out the news.

SELECTION OF NEWS STATIONS:You are required to review a minimum of 6 news stations/or outletsto complete this required takehome assignment.Additionally, at a minimum at least two (2) of the selected news stations/channels must include at least two of the following three stations: MSNBCorCNN, andFox News(Plus four other news stations for channels).

Purpose:The purposeof this assignment is to introduce political science students to a variety of cable television (TV), Satellite, Radio, Internet, and other News reporting news outlets which invariably seek to shape and mold the public’s views and perceptions pertaining to political or social issues and political candidates, etc. Additionally, for this assignment:

  1. Is designed as a take home assignmentto assist students to develop a more in-depth view that may become more “objective, quantifiable, and realistic when listening to and evaluating the news (including the “Fake News”):
  • You are required to review Chapter 10 (The Media), review Dr. Drew’s pre-recorded video lectures and the Power Points which are posted in Module #10, for a better understanding of the news media’ role.
  • You will develop a more informed “personal analysis”of how the news today can sometimes be “manipulative”,

  and/or biased. It can also be used as a “politicaltool” to indoctrinate our minds to perpetuate and develop certain partisan-

“views andperspectives which mayhelp to further the intentional biases by reporting news outlets and talk show topics.

  • Students are to utilize information obtained from the various class lectures and various classroomlectures, discussions, and

        assigned readings and “handouts”.
