EXAMPLES AS TO HOW THE DOCUMENT SHOULD LOOK ARE ATTACHED
Choose one historically significant album from any genre, and research the year when it was released in order to argue how it both reflected and impacted culture at the time. Some examples: The Beatles’ Sergeant Pepper, 1969; Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, 1992; Johnny Cash’s Live from Folsom Prison, 1968… and so on.ALBUM: “What’s Going On” Marvin Gaye (1971) In this topic, you will primarily research the album, but you will also use primary sources from the year of its release, such as newspapers, reviews of the album, interviews with the artist, etc. Another example to look at would be the 33 1/3 series of books, where authors write a short book about a single album. You may also work with and incorporate information from academic disciplines such as history, sociology, and, of course, music. You will use both primary and secondary sources for this essay.
Works cited requirement
Scholarly periodical sources (peer-reviewed articles in scholarly publications): 3
Popular periodical sources (articles from reliable news sources and magazines with editors): 3
Books: At least 2 citations
Videos and podcasts can count as a popular source, depending on the length/scope (for example, a one hour documentary can equal a book, but one half hour episode of a podcast would equal an article).
Note that these are minimal number suggestions. In researching and assembling your bibliography, you will inevitably find more than this number of sources. But for what you will actually cite in your essay, these are the minimal required numbers.
