ANT 102: Introduction to Cultural Anthropology

Response 5: Religion, Symbolism & Communication  

You are responsible for reading a number of documents in this portion of the course:

 “Dowry Deaths in India”

“Fighting for our Lives”

And “Body Art as Visual Language”

Choose one of these documents for your response paper and relate it to what we’ve been discussing in class. As we have discussed, be sure to provide evidence that you’ve read the document—summarize it, and then respond to it. You can include your personal feelings as part of the response, any personal experiences, or, you can do some additional reading and relate more material to the article or chapter you’ve chosen.   

Note that you are choosing one of these documents for your response paper, but all are required reading prior to Quiz 5.

Assignment: Use your lecture notes and materials to add to your understanding of what your chosen reading is discussing about religion or communication.

This response should be 100% your own work, should include citations of lecture and material, and potentially reputable outside sources, if you choose. It should be between 2-3 typed pages in length (double spaced, 11 font). Due in class the day of Quiz 5 in hard-copy form, handed in prior to the quiz.
