Question 1 (40 marks)
Mike, a 34-year-old vegetarian and a long-distance runner, weighs 70 kg and 180 cm in height. He used to do vigorous training four times a week before being diagnosed with osteoarthritis. Doctor explained to Mike that his chronic knee pain was mainly due to prolonged overload training and lack of muscles support. As a health advisor, you would like to suggest Mike to improve his living style by exercising and eating healthily.
- Explain the different types of muscle fiber and analyze which type of muscle fiber activates most in Mike’s case. (8 marks)
- Corresponding to 1a, design an intervention program for Mike. The intervention program should include both i) an exercise plan (18 marks) and ii) nutrition intake suggestions (14 marks). For the exercise plan, you should calculate his BMI and BMR, apply suitable health-related fitness components and provide exercise precautions that are essential.
Question 2 (40 marks)
Chelsey is a new star in tennis. She entered the Hong Kong Team last year and started to prepare for the coming Asian Games. She trained hard and put a lot of pressure on herself. She kept herself away from the social network and only focus on tennis. Recently, she felt hard to fall asleep and always had nightmares. She is always in a bad mood and her skin quality is turning bad. Her mum suggested Chesley take some supplements but she rejected this suggestion. She told her mum that there are strict regulations towards athletes’ drug- taking to prohibit the use of performance-enhancing drugs.
- What are the problems if Chesley has taken those unauthorized supplements? (9 marks)
- In terms of potential health, psychological, and financial concerns, why do athletes use performance-enhancing drugs in sports? (15 marks)
- Suggest 2 ways for Chelsey to release stress and 2 ways to improve sleeping quality. (12 marks)
- Suggest 2 ways for Chelsey to improve her social wellness. (4 marks)
