Scenario One

A child in your class has been abandoned by his mother and is cared for by an uncle and his girlfriend, whom you suspect are drug dealers. You document numerous instances of neglect and emotional abuse, which you report to your local child protective services agency. An investigation is made, but the child is left in Uncle’s home.

Scenario Two

A five-year-old girl in your class is showing the classic signs of abuse: multiple bruises, frequent black eyes and psychological withdrawal. Her mother is a high-strung young woman, says her child fall a lot, but you have not observed the girl to be clumsy. Twice the child’s father seemed to smell of alcohol when he picked her up from school.

Scenario Three

A number of families have recently moved their children to your facility from another daycare in the area. They have told you stories of what happened to their children that went to the other facility.

They describe dirty classroom, placing children outside in the sun to sleep, withholding food as punishment and one teacher to  twenty children.

On your way to work one day you decide to drive by and see for yourself. There are a few rusted pieces of playground equipment and several children peering through a chain link fence with no adult in sight.
