Lab Report

1. In the Excel spreadsheet, calculate abundance, frequency, and density for each category of herbaceous vegetation and shrubs using formulas in Excel.  Hint:  the COUNTIF function might be useful for density. For trees, calculate basal area in square meters per hectare. Multiplying the Basal Area Factor (BAF) of the prism times the number of trees counted in, will give you the basal area in square feet per acre, so you will have to convert that to square meters per hectare.  1 acre =0.405 ha and 1 square foot = 0.0929 square meters. On the mammal data tab, you don’t have to do any specific calculations, but you might want to look at things like species richness, numbers of animals, and which specific animals were found in each habitat. Are there any data that seem suspect or like they should be outliers?  If so, specify which and why. Type a paragraph describing the differences between the interior and edge of the bottomland hardwood forest you sampled, based on your data.  This should be a WORD document.
