For decades, critics including former judges have pointed out that the partisan electoral system for Texas judges allows for the appearance of bias for donors or political allies, if not not improper influence itself. Despite recommendations from the Texas Commission on Judicial Selection, ending Texas’ partisan judicial elections looks unlikely. The report lists a number of ways other states select judges. Do you believe the legislature should introduce a constitutional amendment changing the way we select judges in Texas? If so, which selection method should replace the current system? If not, why do you believe the current selection method should to stay in place?
