- Read the attached checklist above.
- Imagine that you have observed the child, filled out the checklist, and will now be evaluating the child’s physical abilities based on the results of the checklist.
- Review the checklist and notice the child’s physical strengths and skills.
- The checklist describes a child named Harper who is almost four years old.
- The checks in the “Usually” column indicate that the child is capable of the skill and has been observed to do it more than once.
- The checks in the “Emerging” column indicate that the child is trying to master the skill but is not fully capable yet.
- Write about what physical strengths and skills this child has and what skills are developing based on your review and interpretation of the checklist.
- Write in paragraphs and include the fine motor skills and the gross/large motor skills.
- Describe additional activities and strategies that you could use to help the child develop three emerging skills:
- select three skills (pouring, catching, jumping, etc.)
- choose at least one gross motor and one fine motor skill
- think of activities other than the activities already on the checklist (example: if child is having trouble catching a ball, think of another throwing and catching activity).
