In order to receive all class participation points, each student should post at least two topics during the semester related to the subject matter covered in this course. The first post should include a topic from the first 6 chapters in the textbook and should be submitted before the midpoint of the term. The second post should include a topic from the last 6 chapters in the textbook and should be submitted at least two weeks prior to the end of the term. I will send reminders. Examples of posts would be articles/news (video or text) on the internet regarding topics we are studying in this course . You should include your opinion of the material you are posting. Additionally, each student should respond to at least two of the posts of their fellow students including their opinion of that post. “I agree” or I don’t agree” is not enough. Please explain your understanding/opinion of the post. You will get 50% of the participation points from the topics you post and 50% from your responses to the posts from your fellow students.

Below is an article that can serve as an example for your postings. You can select anything that is related to the coursework. You need to explain how this is related to the course, what you learned, and any opinions you might have. Remember that twice during the term, you should find two topics to post and each student should reply related to at least two posts from fellow students. The replies should also include the opinions of the fellow students. If you have any questions, please let me know.

If I were a student and posted this article. I would say:

This article is timely because the trucking industry is operating at maximum capacity. There is a shortage of equipment and also the carriers are having great difficulty dealing with driver shortages. This has driven costs up. Regardless, the freight has to move and creative options must be found. Intermodal has been around for a long time. However, it has not been very popular and there has been excess capacity in intermodal shipping. However, with the current capacity conditions in the trucking industry, intermodal is becoming more popular. Historically, intermodal has not been reliable from a delivery perspective. Adverse weather has a more significant impact on intermodal than on trucking. This is something that intermodal carriers must work to resolve.

If I were a fellow student, I might post:

This was an interesting article. I can see how using intermodal  helps solve the capacity issue in the trucking industry. At least the long haul portion or the route would be covered by rail. However, there still has to be a truck to deliver the container to and from the reload center and that relies on a driver and equipment. Therefore, intermodal carriers must ensure that proper service levels can be assured from origin to destination.
