International Brand Management

Task:

In your assigned group, select either an iconic brand or a challenger brand in a chosen industry (i.e., Arts & Entertainment, Fashion, Food & Drink, Personal Hygiene, Tech & Electronics, Tourism & Adventure, NGOs and Charities), and analyse it to answer the following questions:

What are useful branding lessons can we learn from this brand (choose 1 to 3)?

What are challenges/dangers/threats that this brand might face (now or in the future)?

Use the tools that we have discussed in the sessions to help structure your analysis (e.g., brand identity concepts, elements of visual and verbal identity, portfolio management, cultural strategy, emotional branding, etc.). Depending on the brand that you choose, you might need to adapt your focus.

For iconic brands: What is the history or genealogy that supports the brand’s iconicity? Collect promotional materials over at least 10 years and analyse them. How did the brand change? Why?

For challenger brands: What are the category norms that the brand is breaking? Or the untapped market that it is targeting? What does the category landscape look like (perform a category/competitor audit—aim to include at least 6 competitors), and where is the challenger situated?

Deliverable:
Imagine that you are pitching to a business audience who is assessing whether you are a perceptive brand managers or strategists. Your aim is to deliver a sleek, informative, and thought-provoking presentation in the form of an annotated Pecha Kucha presentation.

A Pecha Kucha presentation consists of 20 slides that each stay on screen for only 20 seconds. You will need to put a timer on each of your slides; in total, you have exactly 6 minutes and 40 seconds. Keep your slides simple and primarily visual. You must adhere to the Pecha Kucha presentation format.

If you decide to record your presentation with PowerPoint, set the timing as follows:

Further notes on the video recording:
Faces must be seen
Audio must be clear
All group members must present
