Purpose: This assignment is designed to teach the student how to locate and retrieve
different types of scientific literature sources to research a hypothesis, then use the
information gathered from those sources to complete a small project.
This assignment is comprised of two exercises. These exercises require that you
demonstrate the ability to use both standard and electronic means of finding
information, and develop the skills needed to evaluate, select, and distill the
information into a thoughtful report or project. You will receive a separate grade for
each of the two exercises.
For Exercise 2, you may choose one of two projects, discussed in more detail below:
- Write a 2-3 page paper on your topic.
THIS PROJECT CANNOT BE COMPLETED WITH GOOGLE ALONE!
NOVA Libraries have the databases you will need to complete this assignment. The
databases are accessible through your myNOVA account.
NOVA Libraries reference librarians can demonstrate the use of the library resources
and help you interpret the different types of resources requested. They can help you
access articles and materials.
If you have access to other libraries with significant holdings of scientific material and
information retrieval technology, these libraries also may be used to complete this
exercise. Please edit the easy and thank you.
