Sociology

Consider the video clips at the beginning and end of the PowerPoint. The first one concerns the organization of factory life early on in the 20th century. The second is part of a documentary about how our food is produced, which was made recently. Here are the links:Modern Times – watch the first 14 minuteshttps://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3mhpli From Food Inc.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enwU5jIXSlUHow would early sociologists Marx, Durkheim, and Weber analyze what is going on in these two clips? What are the similarities and differences between these two versions of the industrial workplace? In your responses, you should use at least three of the following terms. Define the terms and identify the theorist with whom they are associated: Division of labor social solidarity. Bureaucracy rationalization. Class conflict capitalism, function Latent function. Manifest function.  Anomie. Ideology symbol Here is how your response should be structured.  First paragraph: Discuss the first clip from Modern Times. How does the scenario depicted help illustrate some ideas from classical social theory? Use at least three of the terms and be specific in your response. SecoSecond paragraph: How does the clip of the chicken farm help to illustrate the usefulness of sociological theory to understanding society and the production of food today? Use three terms. They can be the same that you chose for the first clip. Again, use details from the film to illustrate the terms and define the terms. Be specific. Third paragraph: Choose at least one of the terms that you used in your first two responses and apply that term to some contemporary event or situation. For example, you might want to use Durkheim’s term” anomie” to discuss recent violence in the streets. You might want to use the term “class conflict” to describe current economic conditions. You might want to use the term “rationalization” to describe the impact of automation on labor markets.. You might want to discuss “symbols” or “ideology” debates about confederate monuments. These are just a few ideas. Use your sociological imagination. Provide links to the articles you are referring to.
