Propaganda

Paper will be a minimum of 10-pages (excludingbibliography/works cited) and should include research, with citations from secondary sources, on one of two topics. Students may choose from either of these or select their own topic with the permission of the instructor.

  1. Compare propaganda through the ages. Identify the variables that changed the least and the most.  What do you expect the future of propaganda to be and why? (Use the “10 Divisions of Propaganda Analysis” cited in Chapter 6 ofPropaganda)   
  2. Using “10 Divisions of Propaganda Analysis” cited in Chapter 6, develop your own case study of a propaganda campaign being used today or in the recent past. Apply the “10 Divisions” to analyze each aspect of the campaign and explain whether the campaign was successful or not successful.

In addition to the two assigned texts, Propagandaby Bernays and Propaganda and Persuasionby Jowett and O’Donnell, students should read and quote from at least four other sources and add these to the “Works Cited.”  These can be books or articles (either assigned in class or which students find on their own
