Ethogram Project – NO COVER PAGE
The purpose is to watch and take note of the behavior of the animal you are focusing on. This animal should be non domesticated and at the zoo.
No references need. You can absolutely watch a video or research on the animal.
• Choose animal- I chosen Raccoons
•Pick and State the topic (Ex’s: foraging, mating, communication)-(1 sentence)
(For example: State the topic is like: the foraging behaviors of animal is studied)
•State hypothesis that supports behavior- 1 sentence
•You choose type of scanning technique
–You will defend why you choose technique for your study/hypothesis
– Can use different scanning (observing) techniques (ex: foraging techniques)
–Depends on subject’s behavior and how many
• Choose sampling style (from list) and defend why you used it for your behavior – (1 or 2 sentences)
-I made a file that show a list of different methods of data collection. You can selection any sampling. There’s an explanation of each sampling in the file.(Ad Libitum Sampling, Focal sampling, or Continuous sampling may be the easiest. However, it is up to you to select ONE sampling.)
•Create an ethogram of only the necessary behaviors
–Include a minimum of 4 behaviors and a maximum of 8
•State definitions for all behaviors (4-8) in ethogram
–Make sure the behaviors you chose support your hypothesis
–Use template in PP or create your own
–I created the table/template. It’s within the files. It includes the 7 behaviors. You can add one more to make a total of 8.
–Please then fill out the description part. (I provided examples of how the ethogram behavior definition section should look.) Please provided detailed information for the description.
•Show ethogram with data tracker (behaviors & data)
–Show raw data that you took from the field!
•Do NOT hand in reworked data
(On the data tracker lines 1-12 is to list the behaviors. Since it’s 8 behaviors in total, lines 1-8 should be filled. The comment section is where you will take notes on the behavior.
Beh- stands for behavior
Tm- stands for time
•Points will be taken off if ANY more information is added
•2 pages- 1 for data and 1 for explanations
-(Pleasea include how the data supported the hypothesis )
