Discussion 10 (Covid and Frankenstein)

In Frankenstein, one of Shelley’s themes is that science needs to be monitored and held accountable for its actions.  Shelley portrays science to her society as an entity whose moral compass should not be trusted.

Today, our society is looking at science and its development of the Covid-19 vaccine.  Some in society trust science without hesitation, and others are questioning whether the vaccine is safe.

DISCUSSION:  Address the ways that today’s society is dealing with both the hopes and the fears of the Covid vaccination.  In so doing, discuss the transparency of science in the development of the vaccine. Has science been transparent in its delivery of vaccination information?  Is it science or the government that parts of society mistrust?  What argument would you make for getting the vaccine?  What argument would you make for not getting the vaccine?  These are just a few questions to get you started.
