Narrative Essay

Consider the following:

  • You are telling a story or narrative – however, you must have a lesson or moral to share.
  • The purpose, lesson, or moral must be listed in the first sentence of your essay.
  • Typically, the story around your lesson or moral should be no longer than 24 hours.  However, like in the “learning to swim” example, your narratives can extend to the time period needed, like a few weeks in that example.  Avoid telling “your life story” – stick to the format.
  • In the introduction, be sure to provide any background information needed for the essay.
  • In paragraphs 2, 3, and 4 – tell your story.  Paragraph 2 is the beginning of the story, paragraph 3 is the middle/climax of the story, and paragraph 4 is the end of the story.
  • Use your concluding paragraph to wrap up how the story reinforces the lesson or moral listed in the first paragraph.
  • Remember to provide descriptive elements in your stories.  How do things look/feel/sound/smell/taste?
  • Create a unique title for the essay (you should have a clever title).
  • Each paragraph of your 5 paragraph essay must be at least 5 sentences.

Upload a Word document containing your 5 paragraph descriptive essay.  Ensure that it is in a Word format (.doc or .docx).  If I am not able to open your essay, I will not be able to grade it, and you will receive a zero.
