Questions to pursue :

What foods do you need to eat to have the best overall health?

What foods are the worst for your health?

What foods are believed to be good for the body but really aren’t?

My research proposal is about what foods are the best for your body’s overall health.  I have chosen this because I am an exercise science major and plan on getting my personal training license very soon and figured this knowledge will be very helpful for me and my future career. A secondary question that I also want to dive into is what foods are the worst for your health. I have a feeling that it’s going to be a lot of processed foods such as honey buns, chips, and stuff like that. So the question might transform into something on the lines of… What foods are believed to be good for the body but really aren’t? But I would still like to know what foods are truly the worst for you even if it is just sweets. After a quick Google search, I have already found many items that I’m surprised to see on the list of foods that are not actually good for you such as yogurt, dried fruit, and even some sports drinks. But with my knowledge on this topic already I see foods such as plant-based milk and granola and think, who thinks those are good for you?  I’m really excited to see if I have been eating things thinking that they were good but it turns out there’s a better alternative or they aren’t good for you at all. I also chose this topic because one of my main goals in life is to make everyone around me more healthy and I hope to inspire others too. I know that this research will bring a lot of information together and if it’s credible enough, it could be a very big help to a lot of people around the world and even you and me. Because I have been into fitness and lifting for over two years now, I already have a vast knowledge on what foods to eat if I want to lose or gain weight, what foods have good protein, carbohydrates, fats, and fibers. But I am hoping to find out more about how to get all of your daily vitamins without having to take a multivitamin or if taking a multivitamin might even be healthier. Some of the topics I already know that I want to pursue are balancing the types of foods you eat if it’s healthier to be in a caloric surplus, deficit or to be just at maintenance. And last but most certainly not least if all of these new plant-based meats have good nutritional value or it’s just a hoax. I know as I research I’ll see topics that I feel fit well and want to expand on them more and this will cause ideas to keep coming on how to conduct the best research.

To complete all of my research, I will be conducting online research from various websites from West Chesters library website. Another source I plan to use is West Chester University’s library because I’m certain there are books on nutrition. After the library, if I feel even more information is required, I will use google and find websites with reliable sources. My main goal for research is to start now and not stop until I’m finished my final draft of the research story. The first things that I want to research are my main questions, what foods do you need to eat to have the best overall health, what foods are the worst for your health, and what foods are believed to be good for the body but really are not? After finding all of the research that is required for these three topics, I will then move on to the smaller topics like getting your daily vitamins, what calorie count is the best, and whatever else comes across my screen that seems worthy of researching and sharing. To finish my research, I will use my connections and ask people who are certified personal trainers or nutritionists at the gym where I work and exercise. I plan on coming to them with research and seeing if they have valuable information to add or to disprove something that I found online. I feel this is going to be a huge form of research for me because I get to learn from people who specialize in this kind of stuff and have been expanding their knowledge throughout their years on this topic and even teaching others as a profession.

Drafting and writing are going to be the easiest part for me because once I find all of my research and put it on a piece of paper, I can split it up into however many sections or paragraphs are required to keep the information separated and organized. The only issue I can see myself running into is needing to revise everything that I have written because I struggle with grammar and sometimes miss errors because I am dyslexic. But I do have a plan to help myself revise. Before turning in any of my work I will reread it myself at least a few times and then have either my roommate, parents, or really anyone proofread it to make sure I turn in my best work. Some goals that I’m setting for this project are to have everything done days before it’s due and not procrastinate so I can keep researching and adding more information if necessary or fix any grammatical or spelling errors that I may have missed. I do much better work when I don’t feel rushed, so for me to succeed with this project I need to stay on schedule. When all of the due dates are published I plan on putting them in my notes and calendar on my phone for reminders. I also plan on starting the annotated bibliography as soon as possible so I can get that done and move on to my main research paper. This will leave me plenty of time to add more if needed and proofread as much as needed so I can turn in my best work and hopefully help many people around me become the healthiest version of themselves.

I’m excited to start my research on all of these fun topics to learn and hopefully end up helping at least one person. Overall I’m really happy with where I am right now because I have a solid idea of where and who I’m going to go to and I also know what topics interest me. Going back to my main goal of helping people I plan on posting this paper on my social media and hopefully others will share it so I can share my knowledge with people who are interested or need it.
