There are some things you need to consider when you are sharing information.
- Are you invading somebody’s privacy or disclosing people’s personally identifiable information without their consent? (you have to think about this when you are dealing with research data, especially qualitative data)
- Is the information you are planning to share a copyrighted material by you or somebody else?
- Is the use of the information you are planning to share restricted by a specific ‘terms of use’ agreement (e.g., not allowed for commercial uses, but allowed for educational/personal uses)?
When you are sharing information, you need to think of all that from the user’s perspective (you need to practice the fair use of information when collecting it to share) and the provider’s perspective (you define how the users can use the information you are sharing, and/or need to address people’s privacy issues).
What type of information-sharing scenario, in terms of issues discussed above, can you think of? And what would be your solution(s) for it?
