A culture of Quality

The purpose of this assignment is to have you present a review and comparison of publicly reported measures of quality within a culture calling for engagement and decision-making by consumers/patients.

 Presents a comparison of quality ratings for two specific providers (i.e., two hospitals, two nursing homes, two individual physicians) within the same state. The providers chosen should be the same (hospital, nursing home, physician, ACO, etc.) but different, for example, one provider in a highly populated region and the other in a lower populated region in the state OR a research-based hospital and a for-profit hospital. Choose two to three quality ratings that you examine for each provider, define, and explain the components of your chosen ratings, the source, and then, compare the quality ratings for these two similar but distinct providers. Discuss any differences and/or similarities in the ratings.

 The Joint Commission, with a brief registration process allows examination of quality reports on a state’s hospitals for multiple quality measures in eight disease/condition areas, including heart failure care, pregnancy care, children’s asthma care, and so on. The HealthGrades site, www.healthgrades.com, includes ratings of individual physicians, hospitals, and nursing homes. 

 The Leapfrog Group https://www.hospitalsafetygrade.org permits comparisons of hospitals in a state on quality measures overall or by medical condition.
