As you know an ethnography describes a particular human situation, practice, or group as it exists in a particular time and space. For instance, the article Eating Christmas in the Kalahari, by Richard Lee, analyzed the behavior of a particular community of !Kung who lived in Southern Africa in the 1960s.  When you analyze shawshank redemption think again about behavior, artifacts and knowledge, and how they relate to some of the concepts you have learned about this semester.

 You will continue to analyze the cultures in your film. Your paper should include the following: 

Introduction with film synopsis, and a thesis statement that includes the three course concepts that you will be 

working on 

Culture – you will describe two cultures or subcultures, identify cultural norms and values, and explains similarities and differences (for this you will draw on fieldnotes 2) 

Anthropological Concepts – USING Cultural symbols  , Assimilation   and   Family/Kinship

How is it relevant to the film? Describe a scene in the film in which this concept is evident from the character’s behavior.

Conclusion – reflect on what you have learned by analyzing this film.
