Sociology Reflection Paper

In the paper, students are responsible for reflecting on the following… 

1.  What chapter discussed throughout the semester did you find most interesting? What resonated with you the most and why? Explicitly define a theory or concept and provide abstract thought. Things to consider in reflecting: 

–  What are the main ideas of the perspective? 

– Why does it appeal to you? 

–  What does this perspective tell you about your own life? 

2. Find a current academic article that connects to the chapter, theory, or concept. The article should be a current piece that was written within the last year. Things to consider in reflecting on the article: 

–  What is the article’s main argument? 

– What is your reaction to the argument? 

–  How does this article connect with the topics discussed throughout the semester?

–  Does it affirm, challenge, and illustrate the concepts and theories presented in class?

3. How will this course apply to your future profession, current major, and/or personal goals? How could studying sociology help you in this career? Things to consider in reflecting: 

–  To your knowledge, what identities discussed throughout the course are overrepresented in your future career or profession? 

– To your knowledge, what identities discussed throughout the course are underrepresented in your future career or profession? 

– How can your industry better support groups who may experience greater barriers in entering the profession?
