Write an analytical paper on a specific social issue

-Assignment Purpose: To give you experience in defining a sociological problem and providing a systematic answer or response to that question based upon your own experience and investigation.

– Description: Write an analytical paper on a specific social issue under one of the following general topics: Social Roles, Interaction, and Organization Culture Crime and deviance Social Inequality Race and Ethnicity Social Change and the Future The Environment Gender issues in Canada.

-Your paper should be 4 – 6 pages in length with a 12-point font; double-spaced, one-inch margins, paginated, and with an original title page, reference page and at least 3 academic references. You will need a Title page, 4 – 6 pages of content, and a Reference page. The title page, and reference page are not included as part of the 4 – 6 pages of substantive content. You do not need an Abstract page. Please use APA formatting for your Term Paper: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/general_format.html

-It is to be an analytical paper in the sense that you will be providing information that not only describes the issue with which you are dealing, but in addition, you will be working towards an explanation of the problem. Use sociological theory to examine a real-world problem. The process that you should follow in developing your paper can be outlined as follows:

-Title Page: Develop a specific title for your paper. Please see the link above for an APA format for title pages under “Major Paper Sections”, use “Student APA Title Page”

-Introduction: Define your problem or topic area. -What are you trying to find out about your topic?

This is where your thesis statement goes and where you give a brief description of what others have written about the topic. Read some peer reviewed journal articles and other academic literature that will help you know what has been written about your topic. This will help you define and refine what you want to write about. You will need at least three academic sources. Identify sociological approaches used by others that similarly addressed your topic.

-Analysis section: Choose at least one sociological theory or concept (I.e., symbolic interactionism or conflict theory) to analyze your topic.

This is where you read some peer reviewed journal articles or other academic literature that will help you know what has been written about your topic. Indicate how you are going to analyze your topic (i.e., which approach will you take, or which set of factors will you conclude are most important to explain your problem) and justify why. Organize and present your information.

Your findings must be set up in such a way as to show how and why you have discussed your topic in the way that you have. You may use your textbook as a source of information, but you should also incorporate other books and journal articles (at least 3 scholarly/academic sources).

-Conclusion: Provide a brief concluding section to summarize your analysis and to indicate its importance. Are you left with some questions that you didn’t answer in your paper?

Four to six pages isn’t very much space so you may be left with some areas of your topic you didn’t discuss. Your conclusion might include that you are left with more questions for another paper!
