Population Pyrimid

Before attempting this assignment, you should have viewed the powerpoint presentation on the Demographic Transition and Age-Sex Distributions (Module 9-Part 1 and 2).

1. Using the link below (scroll down), select one country from Latin America (NOT Bolivia, Argentina, or Cuba as these are discussed in the lecture). If you select a letter from the right side of the screen, it will list all countries under that letter.

2. You will examine the population pyramids for 1950, 2000, and 2050 for one country. Include the total population for the country for all three years and discuss that growth over the 100 years. By using the + and – buttons next to the population pyramid, you can change the year. Pay specific attention to how the shapes of the pyramids change between the three years.

3. You should describe the age and sex distributions of the populations for the three years and how they change between the three selected years. Pay specific attention to age. For instance, are there any bulges in the population pyramids? Are there any slender areas of the population pyramids? Is there a discrepancy in the percentage of males versus females in certain years? Provide commentary on why this is so.

4. By referring to the Demographic Transition Model (see powerpoint lecture), discuss the changes that the country has experienced over this 100- year period. Identify a probable stage of the demographic transition for each of the years (1950, 2000, and 2050). Explain why this is so.

Your essay should be approximately 2 typed pages (double-spaced).
