Transfer of Skills and Language Acquisition
In the Module 1 Analysis assignment, you recommended a bilingual education program currently in use in your school or district and explained how it would meet the needs of a group of students when fully implemented. In your Module 2 presentations, you received a theoretical foundation for the relationships between first and second language acquisition and how skills transfer from one language to the other.
In this assignment, you will develop a lesson plan appropriate to your bilingual model. Included within the lesson will be two strategies that facilitate the transfer of skills of English learners..
Step 1. Research
Conduct research to locate two instructional strategies that promote students’ transfer of skills.
Tutorials for conducting research are linked on the Learning Objects page.
Step 2. Compose
Compose 2-3 paragraphs to introduce your lesson plan. Describe the lesson in terms of your grade level, content area, and the theme you have chosen for your mini-lesson plan. Incorporate answers to these questions in your introduction:
What is transfer of skills?
Why is transfer of skills important to the language acquisition of second language learners?
How do the transfer-of-skills strategies you selected support the bilingual model you selected in your Module 1 assignment?
Step 3. Create
Use the template linked on the Learning Objects page to create your lesson plan. Integrate and clearly designate the two instructional strategies you researched.
Step 4. Conclude
Conclude your paper with a summary of projected student outcomes as a result of the lesson. Include information from your research about how each strategy will facilitate second language acquisition of English learners and transfer of skills.
In your submission, include a title page, your introduction and conclusion with in-text citations, your lesson plan template, and a references page in APA format.
