Research reply

basically all you need to do is reply to this post with a minimum of 150 words for each reply and 2 references. like hey very great discussion post and add facts and add your references atleast two if possible

please make sure its in APA 6th edition the professor is very strict.

start with Hi Barbara, and then references & same with the second discussion post

What are the perceived challenges do you expect to find with validity and trustworthiness in qualitative research? What steps will you implement to ensure that your research is reliable?

Qualitative research in nursing is used to study various topics, such as patients’ experiences with illness and treatment, nurses’ experiences with providing care, and the overall culture of a healthcare organization. It can be conducted through various methods, including interviews, focus groups, and observations. Data collected through qualitative methods are typically analyzed through methods such as content analysis and thematic analysis.

One way of ensuring validity is to use multiple data sources, such as interviews, focus groups, and observations. It allows the researcher to triangulate the data, increasing the findings’ validity (Inclan,2022). However, for research to be legitimate, it must have a detailed and well-designed methodology, a high level of transparency from the researchers, and a track record of providing dependable results.

The potential challenges to the validity and trustworthiness of qualitative research could include the researcher having personal biases that can distort the data. An example of a bias could be the belief that women of African origin are more likely to die once breast cancer is detected in them than their Caucasian counterparts (Bayer,2021). Data collection in an unstructured or unsystematic way, such as social media opinions and phone call transcriptions, makes it difficult to draw reliable conclusions. Another problem facing the effectiveness of research could be the small sample size often used in qualitative research can make it difficult to generalize the findings to a wider population. Qualitative data can be difficult to interpret, and researchers may come to different conclusions about the same data.

To increase the reliability of research, I would choose sources carefully. I would select CINAHL (The Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) because it has a good track record in research matters (McVicar, 2021). Consequently, being critical of the research read is a factor too. I would not take everything at face value. Instead, I would carefully consider the arguments and evidence being presented.

Verifying the findings of the research is important. Where possible, I would try to replicate the research results myself. It will help me build confidence in the findings. We all have biases that can distort our view of research findings. Awareness of my biases and putting them aside when evaluating research will help me achieve credible outcomes. Furthermore, I would try to get multiple perspectives on the findings when looking at research. It will help me build a complete picture of what the research says.

The correct findings are applicable when needed and can also be used for future reference. Invalid research, however, can lead to inaccurate and unreliable findings and cause people to draw false conclusions hence the need for a conventional one. Without proper research, one cannot be sure that their findings are accurate and reliable.

Reliability and validity can be measured with an instrument and quantified through statistical analysis. In qualitative research one must rely on the trustworthiness of the information collected. Trustworthy information is credible and authentic. Reliability strengthens or weakens the evidence found in the research. Validity and applicability also add to the evidence elements. These three elements are necessary in criticizing the evidence (Melnyk, 2015). The reliability compared in quantitative and qualitative research will be examined.

Quantitative research reliability is defined by effect size and estimation of precision effect (Melnyk, 2015). This means if another person recreated the study research the same outcome would occur. The reliability is evaluated by answering if the results in the study were statistical significant, if there was clinical significance, and if safety was described (Melnyk, 2015). An example of reliability was if the adverse events were described even though the researcher was not expecting them. The difference in qualitative research is trustworthiness. One element of trustworthiness is dependability. The other three elements are credibility, transferability, and confirmability (Melnyk, 2015).
