Team Project #1: Hiring Dilemma
As a team, you are hiring committee who has identified a highly skilled candidate to work within the IT department. In the hiring process you discuss previous workplace issues. The candidate informs you of the following:
“I assume you may be conducting a criminal history check on me as part of the hiring process. I want you to know that this investigation will highlight a couple of past problems. Two years ago, my girlfriend and I had a fight and she stated she would be away for a weekend at a workplace conference and I would have no way of contacting her while she was away. I was able to access her workplace emails and trace her whereabouts only to find she was not at a work-related conference, she was with a male co-worker on their own. I do not like being lied to. To retaliate, she reported me to her employer who pressed charges against me for illegally accessing the secured email system. I am a highly skilled IT expert and have no problem accessing such things.”
Your job as a team is to determine if you would hire this person, why or why not. Your paper should be 1,200 words, beginning with a conceptual framework explaining what the issues discussed is, ie: ethics and hiring, the importance of considering ethical behavior in the hiring process. Then expand your discussion on what this information tells you about the character of the individual (skills vs personal choices) and determine if you as a hiring committee would hire this individual, what parameters if any, you would apply as conditions of employment – keep in mind, there is no right or wrong answer to this question, teams determine outcomes based on varied matrices – what is important is your critical thinking in coming up with your decision.
