If you do not find anything useful with the hyperlinks do not cite them, use peer-reviewed articles Class: To cite Kindle (or other e-book formats) as a reference, you must include the following information: the author, date of publication, title, e-book version, and either the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) number, or the place where you downloaded the book. Please note that the DOI/place of download is used in-place of publisher information. Here’s an example: Stoker, B. (1897). Dracula [Kindle DX version]. Retrieved from Amazon.com In-text citations can be confusing because e-books often lack page numbers. Kindle books have “location numbers,” which are static, but are useless to others without a Kindle. Certain models of Kindles have page numbers available.  That will also depend on if the publisher has made them available for that particular e-book. If page numbers are included, these are appropriate to use in your in-text citation. To cite in text for e-books lacking page numbers it is suggested by the APA that you include any of the following to cite the quotation: a paragraph number, if provided; alternatively, you can count paragraphs down from the beginning of the document;  an overarching heading plus a paragraph number within that section; or  an abbreviated heading (or the first few words of the heading) in quotation marks, in cases in which the heading is too unwieldy to cite in full. If a book has numbered chapters and sections, here’s an example given by the APA of how to cite a direct quotation with chapter, section, and paragraph numbers:  Paraphrase: (Yin, 2008). Quotation: (Yin, 2008, Location No. 257). Class:
Please remember that your written assignments should reflect undergraduate
level work. A few of you might lose some points regarding very simple
grammatical errors. A few examples include:
1. Do not use contractions.
2. Indent the first line your paragraphs and double space.
3. Do not cite Wikipedia, dictionaries or encyclopedias.
4. Websites must be cited in the proper APA format. Simply posting the link will
not be acceptable.
5. Cite more peer reviewed journal articles for your writing assignments (at least
three); newspaper articles or magazine articles are not scholarly publications;
they are acceptable to cite but must be outnumbered by scholarly literature. Only
cite the textbook if you must.
6. Write in third person. Do not use “I” or “you.”
7. When using a quote, the page or paragraph number (when citing a webpage)
must appear along with the author and date. For example, “this is a quote (Orr,
2015, p. 5).”
I’ve also noticed that some students cite journals as websites from search
engines like EBSCO:Martin, R. (2011). Police corruption an analytical look into
police ethics. Retrieved from http://ehis.ebscohost.com/eds/pdfviewer/pdfviewer?
sid=7b94e44e-f4ee-42c5-be41-f3c48d748e6d%40sessionmgr11&vid=4&hid=121
This is not correct.
Each journal citation MUST include all of the identifying information – like so:
This is correct – Martin, R. (2011). An Analytical Look into Police Ethics. FBI
Law Enforcement Bulletin, 80(5), 11-17.
Nail these things down and many of you are looking perfect papers.
