This capstone project aims to implement an evidence-based educational program, “What You Can Do About a Lung Disease Called COPD,” among 40-64 years COPD patients. The program’s main objective is to transfer knowledge on COPD through patient education with the expectation that symptom self-assessment and knowledge on COPD will improve. COPD management, such as through lifestyle modifications, can assist in managing the symptoms and thus reduce the impact of the disease hence improving the quality of life of patients and reducing mortality.
The Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) is an enterprise that cooperates with public health officials and health care professionals to promote awareness of COPD and improve treatment and prevention of the condition (American Lung Association, 2021). GOLD promotes the development of evidence-based implementation guidelines for COPD management, such as educational programs.
