The Reporting Information (Career Focus) Essay in APA Each student will research a profession based on his or her chosen program of study or the Career Exploration activity at the beginning of the course. Research about the profession and prospective career will include the following. You may use these as subject headings for your outline and paper. EXAMPLE Thesis Statement: In this research paper, I will research the VETERINARIAN career and how it can positively address the issue/problem of _______________ by collaborating with other fields and careers. For example: In this research paper, I will research the career of a police officer and how it can positively address the problem of community perception by collaborating with other fields and careers. Section I. History of the profession Use increments of time to explain the development of the profession List skills and qualifications needed for this profession Be sure and mention important or famous individuals and their contributions Types of jobs within the profession (ex: travel nurse, neonatal nurse, ER nurse, etc.) Section II. Problems and issues addressed by career Explain the types of problems your career could help solve. Fully explain the problems or needs that your career addresses Section III. Focus on ONE problem and discuss collaboration Explain how your career could interact with at least ONE other disciplines or fields to help solve the issue or problem. Choose a problem or issue that the career addresses and discuss how collaborating with other fields could make a difference. Section IV. Interview Conduct an interview with someone within that profession and/or someone who has traveled to that area of the world (may be someone who has retired). Section V. Job Outlook Explain the job outlook for that profession within Davidson and Davie Counties, North Carolina and the United States (using Career Coach or other job prediction source). You may use charts, graphs etc., from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Section VI. Study Plan Create your study plan that shows how you will complete courses, semester by semester and your plan to enter the profession. Your conclusion may be creative and place you soundly in your “ideal” future. This is to be written as an APA style research paper with five (5) sources at least. You may have more sources.
